Language training, at work or at home

Welcome to your trip to Empathy Land!

The goal of the game is to spark conversations about cultural similarities and differences. Empathy Land helps newcomers, families, friends, neighbors and colleagues engage in intercultural dialogue. With your friends or neighbors, for example, it is fun to explore each other’s (cultural) habits when you draw a card. The game is bilingual, so you immediately learn to understand and speak better Dutch or English.

Within your own family, with younger children, you can of course play the game without the cards. As you travel, players can discuss the sights that pass by. Perhaps some of you have already visited some of them; others may be on your bucket list. Who would like to go where? The one who arrives at Empathy Land first wins. But the others according soon and then we all win.

Empathy Land is an interactive board game that can be played with 3 to 6 players. By guessing whether the statements on the cards are correct or incorrect, players learn about each other’s family and cultural habits and become more aware of mutual differences. Differences that just may be there, then we also better see how much we actually have in common.

Insights

  • Players become aware of mutual cultural differences and similarities learn to understand them better.
  • Players gain insight into gray areas and subcultures.
  • Players realize that habits and behaviors often reveal deeper cultural values.
